High Efficiency washers use less detergent, less energy, low suds while giving you clothes a better clean than the traditional
agitator washer. They also sound different and make less noise than the agitator top loader. As in this case where a customer called about a loud noise coming from his 2 year old, General Electric, high efficiency top load ( model # ptwn8055moms) washer.
Upon a quick and thorough diagnostic test, the loud noise was coming from the rotary motor and clutch assembly.
Like I mentioned, the machine was only 2 years old – but hard water can cause costly damage to appliances – and in this case, there was no doubt in my mind that hard water was the culprit. The part number for the clutch assembly is wh20x10080.
