Frigidaire dishwashers are overall good products, but that doesn’t mean you won’t ever experience a problem with yours. You may find that your dishes aren’t getting as clean as they usually do. On the other hand, you might find that your Frigidaire dishwasher isn’t draining properly. Don’t panic if it happens, it may be one of several issues.
- Drain Pump
- There’s a drain pump inside your dishwasher that uses an impeller that pushes water through the drain hose. When it isn’t functioning properly, the dishwasher won’t drain. To figure out if this is the problem, you should check the pump motor for continuity. This can be done by using a multimeter. If you determine the motor is getting power but not working or it doesn’t have continuity, you should proceed by replacing the drain pump.
- Drain Hose
- Sometimes, a drain hose clogs. You may need to unclog the hose by removing the drain hose from the sink drain and the dishwasher. Clean the hose using a drain snake or with compressed air. You may want to just replace it if it’s too much of a hassle for you because they’re not that expensive.
When the Frigidaire dishwasher isn’t draining, it may mean something is wrong with the check ball. This small plastic ball is located in the check value. It prohibits the water from going back into the dishwasher once draining has occurred. In some cases, the ball gets lodged. This stops the water from draining into the check valve. You may need to physically move the ball.
- Drain Valve
- A common reason why a Frigidaire dishwasher isn’t draining has to do with part of the drain including the drain valve. Because your dishes aren’t perfectly clean when you put them in the dishwasher, the debris from the dishes will clog certain areas of the valve and cause the water to be unable to move throughout the drain valve. This requires you to unclog the drain. You may notice the drain valve is free of debris but still not doing its job. In this case, you must replace it since it’s unable to repair.
- Garbage Disposal
- A garbage disposal has the ability to affect the drain. They use a solid plug that goes to the drain tube. Dishwashers that aren’t connected to the disposal will stay in the tube, but when they are connected, the plug needs to be removed. It’s necessary that you clean out the fitting on the disposal and the one on the drain hose. These two locations are common spots for blockages to happen.
Your Fridgidaire dishwasher isn’t draining properly, but don’t start worrying yet. You may be able to save your investment. In fact, it may be a cheap or free fix that just requires cleaning or a small part.
